STEM Friday has quickly become a highlight of the week for Camden County High School’s Coast Guard JROTC cadets. As announced earlier this year, the program is dedicating its Friday Leadership Labs to hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) initiatives designed to spark creativity and teamwork.

The first project of the year has cadets working in teams of two to design, shape, weigh, paint, test, and race small cars they’ve built from scratch. The activity combines engineering principles with leadership and collaboration—core values of the JROTC experience.

Recent photos capture cadets hard at work refining their car designs and preparing to install axles and wheels. The next steps include weighing, painting, and drop testing, ensuring each car meets design standards before race day.

The project has generated plenty of excitement and friendly competition among the cadets, with more updates to come as testing and racing get underway.
