Cadets Conquer Challenges at Latitude Climbing Following Cadre Selection

Virginia Beach, Va. — On August 13, following the conclusion of the 2025 Cadre Selection and Indoctrination, cadets from Camden County High School’s JROTC program participated in a team-building event at Latitude Climbing in Virginia Beach.

Though the outing was designed as a recreational activity, instructors emphasized its deeper value in developing leadership skills. Many cadets began the session expressing doubt—“Master Chief, there’s no way I can do that”—yet gradually overcame their fears as they pushed themselves on the climbing walls.

Instructors noted the strong parallels between the climbing challenges and the responsibilities of leadership. Success required initiative, determination, and the courage to try—qualities cadets demonstrated throughout the event.

“I am so very proud of these cadets,” said Master Chief Lyn Dupree, JROTC instructor. “The resilience and teamwork they displayed on the rock wall reflect exactly the kind of character we hope to build in our program.”
